Mr. Gelston provides homeschool math online education to gifted children who need support with social emotional learning and minimizing math anxiety. Mr. Gelston provides a safe and relaxing learning space for gifted learners to work at their own pace, tackle their challenges in private, and to develop a positive math identity.
While focusing on minimizing math anxiety and supporting social emotional learning, Mr. Gelston applies an open hearted light touch that is used to relax the learning environment.
As a trained and licensed mathematics educator, Mr. Gelston is knowledgeable in educational pedagogy and works from the understanding that learners need to create their own knowledge. The emphasis is on learning how math works and being able to apply their knowledge to create their own rules while minimizing dependence on memorization.
Most students stay with Mr. Gelston for several years and are able to connect their knowledge throughout their math education. The homeschool math online content covers third grade to AP Calculus. In turn, students enjoy being able to connect things that they learn in 3rd grade to Calculus.
Interestingly, many children who come to Mr. Gelston are visual-spatial learners and require a flexible approach that starts with connecting to their strength as a gateway to develop as a well rounded mathematician.
Students meet privately with Mr. Gelston twice per week, one-on-one through video conferencing and share an uncluttered online whiteboard. We get to see each other and work in collaboration where we work on one math problem at a time. The result is that we have a quality learning environment that facilitates learning.
If you are interested, please request an initial meeting to discuss your learner.
After a brief chat with a parent, we do a 30 minute online sample class to see if it is a comfortable fit.
